A private label Lion’s Mane supplement is a product we make and you sell under your brand. You choose the name, the label and, if you want, the blend or format. We grow the mushrooms, make the extract and supply the documents that prove what is in it.

We grow and freeze-dry every Lion’s Mane fruiting body on our farm in Thomastown, Victoria. This piece explains how private label works with us, what you actually receive, and the questions worth asking any supplier before you commit.

What Private Label Lion’s Mane Supplements Are

Private label means one company makes the product and another sells it under its own brand. The maker handles the ingredient and production. The brand owner handles marketing, packaging and sales.

In the mushroom category, that usually starts with Lion’s Mane extract powder that gets encapsulated or blended into a finished product. Ours is a 10:1 extract made from 100% fruiting body, with no added starch, grain, mycelium or fillers.

You don’t need an extraction plant, a grow room or a testing budget to get started. That is the point of the model.

It also keeps you in control of what matters to your business: the brand, the price point and the customer relationship.

Most launches come down to one thing first. A consistent extract powder that the whole product can be built on.

Why Supplement Brands Use Private Label Manufacturing

Industrial mushroom extraction and laboratory equipment used for producing and analysing Lion’s Mane mushroom extracts.

Building a mushroom supplement from scratch means solving cultivation, extraction, testing, labelling rules and formulation all at once. Private label hands most of that to a partner who already does it every week.

For a new brand, that is usually the difference between launching this year and launching next year.

It also removes a quiet risk. Buying raw mushroom on the open market means trusting someone else’s growing and drying. When the grower and the extractor are the same business, as they are with us, you only have one supply chain to check.

Your time goes into positioning and selling. Ours goes into the crop.

We’ll confirm minimum order quantities and lead times when you enquire, since they depend on format and volume.

The Role of Lion’s Mane Extract in Private Label Supplements

Most private label Lion’s Mane products use an extract rather than plain dried mushroom powder. Here is why that matters for a finished product.

  • More in less space: An extract concentrates the mushroom, so a capsule or scoop can carry a meaningful amount without a huge serve.
  • Fits small formats: Capsules have limited room. Our capsules use a 2 x 300 mg serve.
  • Steadier batches: A defined extract is easier to keep consistent from one production run to the next.
  • Sensible serving sizes: Our powder serve is 1 g, which suits a scoop in coffee or a smoothie.
  • A stated ratio: The extract ratio tells you how much raw material went in. It does not measure the compounds in the result, which is why we test separately.
  • Flexible formats: The same extract can go into capsules, powders, drink mixes and multi ingredient blends.

What 10:1 means for our extract

Our 10:1 Lion’s Mane extract takes about 4 kg of fresh Lion’s Mane to make 100 g of extract powder, as recorded on our spec sheet.

Lion’s Mane Extraction and Manufacturing Process

Our process runs from the grow room to the pouch in one business. Here is the order it happens in.

  1. Grow the fruiting bodies: We grow Lion’s Mane on hardwood sawdust and soya husk in Thomastown. Only the fruiting body, the mushroom itself, is used.
  2. Freeze-dry at harvest: Fresh mushrooms are freeze-dried at −82 °C, which stabilises them before extraction.
  3. Extract: The dried mushroom goes through a hot-water and ethanol dual extraction.
  4. Filter and concentrate: Solids are removed and the liquid is concentrated.
  5. Dry to powder: The concentrate becomes a fine, stable powder ready for capsules or blends.
  6. Check and document: Results are recorded against named labs, samples and dates, so you know exactly what each report covers.

Quality Testing and Laboratory Verification

Testing is what turns a claim into something you can show a retailer or a regulator.

We publish every lab result we hold, and each one names the lab, the sample and the date. We think an undated report is close to useless, because you can’t tell which batch it describes.

Our current reports cover heavy metals (nine trace elements analysed by Symbio Laboratories in May 2026 and AEGIC in November 2024), microbial screening by RMIT University researchers in April 2025, and beta-glucans.

On beta-glucans, Symbio measured 32.2 g/100 g in a tested extract blend with 1% BioPerine in May 2026. That result is specific to that sample, and we describe it that way.

You can read the full results on our Lion’s Mane specifications and lab testing page, along with the downloadable spec sheet.

Product Formats for Private Label Lion’s Mane Supplements

Most brands start with one of three formats.

Capsules are the simplest for customers because the serve is fixed. Ours carry 300 mg each, taken as a two capsule serve.

Powders suit brands that want daily ritual products. A 1 g serve stirs into coffee, smoothies or a mushroom drink.

Blends combine Lion’s Mane with other ingredients, such as other mushrooms or botanicals, under your own formula.

Whatever the format, stability and consistent dosing need checking before launch. We’ll talk that through with you when we scope the product.

Private Label vs White Label vs Contract Manufacturing

The three models differ mainly in how much you control the formula. Here is how they compare for a Lion’s Mane product:

Comparison Factor Private Label Manufacturing White Label Manufacturing Contract Manufacturing
Basic Definition A manufacturer produces a supplement that another company sells under its own brand. A manufacturer produces a standardised product that multiple brands can sell under their own labels. A manufacturer produces a supplement according to a fully customised formulation developed by the brand.
Formulation Control Limited to moderate control. Brands may adjust dosage or minor ingredients. No formulation control. The product formula remains unchanged. Full control over formulation, ingredients, and product specifications.
Branding & Packaging Fully branded by the company selling the product. Branding and packaging are customised by each brand. Fully customised branding, packaging, and product design.
Product Uniqueness Moderate differentiation depending on packaging or minor formula adjustments. Low differentiation since multiple brands sell the same product formula. High differentiation with unique formulations developed for the brand.
Development Time Faster than contract manufacturing since the base formulation already exists. Very fast market entry because the product is already developed. Longer development timeline due to formulation design and testing.
Minimum Order Requirements Usually moderate depending on the manufacturer. Typically lower minimum order quantities. Often higher minimum orders due to customised production.
Research & Development Needed Minimal R&D required. The base product already exists. No R&D required from the brand side. Requires product development, formulation testing, and technical planning.
Best For Brands launching Lion’s Mane supplements with some level of brand differentiation. Businesses entering the supplement market quickly with minimal development work. Established supplement brands developing proprietary Lion’s Mane formulations.
Typical Use in Lion’s Mane Supplements Brands selling capsules or powders based on an existing Lion’s Mane extract ingredient. Brands purchasing pre-formulated mushroom supplements and applying their own label. Brands creating unique blends combining Lion’s Mane with other functional ingredients.

Plenty of brands start with white label or private label to test demand, then move toward a more custom formula once they know what sells. With us, white label means our powder or capsules under your label. Private label means your own blend, formulation or packaging.

Choosing a Reliable Lion’s Mane Ingredient Supplier

Your supplier choice decides what goes in every bottle you sell. Ask these questions before you sign anything.

Questions to ask:

  • Fruiting body or mycelium? Mycelium grown on grain can carry starch from the grain into the powder. We use fruiting body only, which is why we can state no added starch, grain or mycelium.
  • How is it extracted? Ask for the method in writing. Ours is hot-water and ethanol dual extraction after freeze-drying.
  • Can I see the lab reports? Ask which lab, which sample and which date. If a supplier can’t answer all three, treat the report with caution.
  • Where is it grown? Ours is grown in Thomastown, Victoria, Australia.
  • Can I get a spec sheet and samples? You should be able to review both before ordering.
  • Will the next batch match? Ask how consistency is checked between runs.
  • What are the MOQ and lead times? Get them confirmed in writing for your format and volume.

Final Thoughts

Private label lets you put your name on a Lion’s Mane product without building a farm or a lab first. The work you can’t skip is checking the supplier.

At Xotic Mushrooms, brands can start with our Australian-grown powder or capsules under their own label, or develop private label Lion’s Mane with their own blend, formulation or packaging.
